Rehabilitation of 6 Bridges Over the Trans Manhattan Expressway

Arora, as the prime consultant, was responsible for the Preliminary Design Development (“Stage I and Stage II”) for the Long Term and Short-Term Rehabilitation of six (6) TME Overpass bridges. The scope consisted of four bridges having rehabilitation of the bridge deck, girders, and substructures and two bridges having the replacement of the bridge deck and rehabilitation of the superstructure framing and substructure (including seismic retrofit). Global staging construction and local staging construction were evaluated.

As part of the scope a Phase I Stage II Design Development Package Report was submitted summarizing:

  • The results of the 100% hands-on field survey/inspection
  • The findings of the Hazardous Material Survey (HMS) performed for all six structures.
  • The topographical and utility survey performed for all six overpasses.
  • The utility record research and utility owner’s communication and agreement support
  • The evaluation of the effects of the construction of the recommended rehabilitation on the traffic.
  • The development of MOT and Identification of permit requirements.
  • The design verification and refinement of the recommendations of Stage I Study
  • The design development which included: design criteria development; refinement of the seismic evaluation of the St Nicholas Avenue and Amsterdam Avenue Bridges; development of construction and staging schemes
  • The preparation of design documents developed to 25% to Stage III level, which includes: drawings; construction cost estimates; construction Schedule
  • The preparation of Public Participation Program, and, stakeholder coordination (NYCDOT, NYSDOT, MTA, NYPD, Air Right Building Owner/Management, Community Board and Authority).
